Week One

This week has been a mixture of trial and error and also running around trying to figure everything out.

These are our awesome volunteers for the week!!

Tuesday, I left Camp Symonette with the plan of visiting a few work sites, giving some encouragement, snapping some photos, and returning to camp. As we all have learned by now, nothing goes according to plans in the Bahamas. I ended up at the worksite unable to help out because I was wearing shorts and chacos, and without a ride back to camp. Luckily, a second work group showed up at the worksite later on and I made plenty of friends by the end of the day.

Other than that adventure, I have been helping to keep camp life running as smoothly as possible. I have been doing lots of laundry, supervising dish duty, which we delegate out to sometimes not-so-willing volunteers, and helping our worship intern Cory lead worship.

We interns had a hammock party during some free time on Monday.

Amelia likes to hang out in the girls bathroom to avoid the bugs.

The volunteer groups have time every night to do their own devotion, and I very much enjoy listening to them talk about their days. It is so inspiring to hear what the kids have been experiencing and is a great reminder of why we are here, and also of how big God is!

Do you think serving in the Bahamas is the easiest thing ever? Stay tuned to find out more about that next time... :)
